Badrinath Temple
Badrinath in one of the four Dhams a devout Hindu has to visit
in his lifetime to attain salvation. An abode of seers, saints
and yogis from times immemorial, Badrinath is surrounded on
either side by two mountain mountain ranges known as Nar and
Naryanan, with the Neelkanth peak providing a breathtaking
backdrop. The legends say, that Badrinath, was the home of
Lord Vishnu in his incarnation as Narayan. It is known as
Tapobhumi, a land for meditation and penance and bhubaikunth,
the heaven on earth. Facing the Badrinath temple is a hot
water spring known as Tapt Kund, known for its medicinal
properties. Other springs here are the Narad Kund and Surya
Kund. There is a separate tank for women. |

Haridwar Temple
Haridwar located in the foothills of the Himalayas in the
north Indian state of Uttaranchal represents the point where
the Ganga reaches the plains. Haridwar is an ageless
pilgrimage destination, held in reverence for centuries.
Several temples and ashrams are found in this town and a visit
to Haridwar is like stepping into a comletely different world.
Once known as Gangadwara, Haridwar (and Rishikesh) represents
the gateway to the Himalayan pilgrimage shrines of Badrinath
and Kedarnath. Haridwar has very rich ancient religious and
cultural heritage. In the ancient scriptures of India, this
place is well known by the name of Mayapur. This city is also
well known for many other things apart from the holy river
Ganges. Besides this, Kumbh fair is organised at the interval
of every 12 years in this city in which about 1 crore pilgrims
from all over the world participate. |

Rishikesh Temple
Rishikesh, the gateway to Himalayas, is considered as the
Mecca for Yoga and Meditation centres. Rishikesh nestled in
the Tehri-Garhwal region of Uttaranchal abounds in natural
splendour. The spectacle of the Ganga rushing through the
Himalayan foothills is an awesome sight. Several temples dot
the banks of the Ganga at Rishikesh. Rishikesh is located at a
height of about 1360 feet above sea level. It is believed that
several yogis and sages lived and practised penance here. |
