Somnath Temple
Somnath is the famous temple of God Shiva located near Veraval
in Suarastra. It is on the western coast of Gujarat state.
Somnath temple has one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord
Shiva. The temple is believed to have appeared first in gold,
at the behest of the moon-god, next in silver, created by the
sun-god, a third time in wood at the command of Krishna , and
finally in stone, built by Bhimdeva. The present temple is 7
th temple built in the same style.
Facing the wide open Arabian Sea, the temple at Somnath is an
imposing structure offering a spectacular sight to the
beholders. There is a grey sand beach outside the temple
attracting tourist. A short distance from the Somnath temple
is Bakhla Tirth, where Lord Krishna was said to have been
struck by the stray arrow of a Bhil tribal The temple has
imposing architecture and is a beautiful sight facing the blue
expanse of the Arabian Sea
Dwarka Temple
Dwarka is located on the western coast of Gujarat on the shore
of the Arabian Sea. Dwarka is famous for the Dwarkadheesh
temple (Jagat Mandir) built on the north bank of the Gomti
River . Dwarka was destructed by the sea and present dwarka is
the 7 th city built.
Dwarka is once of the seven holy cities of India . Lord
Krishna spent 100 yrs hear. The main temple is of Lord
Dwarkadhish. There is temple of Lord Baladevaji to the right
of the main temple. The main temple is five-story high with
the lavishly carved conical spire rising to a height of 157
feet. Dwarka is also the site of Dwarka Pitha, also known as
Kalika Pitha. Dvaraka extended up to Bet Dwaraka (Sankhodhara)
in the north and Okhamadhi in the south. Eastward it extended
up to Pindara Janmashtami (birthday of Lord Krishna),
celebrated in the month of August/September, is a major
festival of Dwarka
Akshardham Temple
Akshardham is one of the largest temples situated in
Gandhinagar, a capital of Gujarat. Swaminarayan Akshardham
Gandhinagar is combination of art, culture, devotions,
education, exhibitions, research, traditions and conveys
timeless spiritual messages to all worshippers.
The Swaminarayan Temple Akshardham was build using pink
sandstone which is well known for its architectural
masterwork. Akshardham reside in 108 feet in height, 240 feet
in length and 131 feet in width. Swaminarayan Mandir
Akshardham was attacked by Islamic terrorists on 24 th
September 2002. Fully armed terrorist attacked Akshardham
Temple , in this attach total 29 people were killed and 79
wounded. Our commando and state policeman fought very bravely
and in this operation one army man and one policeman was
killed.
Sun Temple
The Sun Temple at Modhera is famous Sun Temple dedicated to
the Sun God. Ths sun god is referred to as Surya or Aditya.
The temple was built by King Bhimdev in 1026 AD. King Bhimdev
belonged to the Solanki dynasty, which was considered
Suryavanshi or descendents of the Sun God. The structure of
temple reflects architecture of Solanki dynasty.
Sun Temple was so designed that the first rays of the rising
sun fall directly on image of Lord Surya. The Sun temple has a
sanctum, a pradakshina patha and a sabha mandap in front.
Beautiful carved images of the Sun God on the sanctum
portrayed. The temple was once destroyed by the Mahmud of
Ghazni. However, enough has reamined of the temple to convey
its grandeur.
Ambaji Temple
Ambaji is the major Shakti piths of Ambe Mata situated in the
Banaskantha district of Gujarat State. Ambaji is the seat of
Ambe Mata, the mother goddess. Millions of devotees visit the
temple every year. Ambaji temple has a golden yantra with 51
shlokas. A triangular Yantra, inscribed with figures and the
syllable shree in the center, represents the deity There is no
image of Ambaji Mata in temple, people worship the yantra.
Original seat of Ambe Mata is on gabbar hill, located 3 kms
away from Ambaji temple. The temple is aligned in the same
axis at Gabbar hill. On the Gabbar hill, footsteps of Goddess
Ambe Mata are printed. It is believed that heart of Goddess
Parvati fell on Gabbar Hill. Also tonsure of Lord Krishna took
place here.
Dakor Temple
Dakor is situated in the kheda district of Gujarat State.
Earlier Dakor was known as Dankapur, famous for the Danknath
temple of Lord Shiva. In 1722 AD Ranchodrajiji temple of Lord
Krishna was built and then Dakor became famous pilgrimage
place.
Dakor is famous for Ranchorji temple of Lord Krishna. Ranchor
is the name given to Lord Krishna when he fled from the
battlefield in Mathura while fighting against Jarasandha. The
divinity of Ranchorji is similar to the divinity of Dwarkadish
in Dwarka, both being made from black stone. Devotees are
allowed to touch the feet of the Deity.
