Kankaria Lake is situated in the southeastern parts of the
city. Kankaria Lake is an artificial lake, complete with
island garden and a summer palace, this lake was constructed
in 1451 by the famous Sultan Qutub-ud-din Aibak who is also
famous for Qutub Minar of Delhi another famous Indian
Monument. This lake has 34 sides with each being approximately
60 meter long. Famous kings and queens of the Mughal era
including the likes of Emperor Jehangir and Empress Nur Jahan
once frequented this place. This place has now turned into a
very happening local picnic spot with people from far flung
areas coming here for a day of relaxation and fun. With a huge
zoo and a children's park right by the lake this place has
also become very popular among the children from around this
place.
Kankaria Lake is circular in design and has a circumference of
approximately a mile. This beautiful lake is now surrounded by
lots of roadside food vendors that specializes in typical
Indian fast food that can turn a lot of figure conscious
people into food junkies.
